Lincoln Park lost a legend last week with the passing of John Patrick Kelly. He was a unique uncle. He cared deeply about his family. He always made sure his family and friends were well taken care of any time they visited.
When John's father passed away, John was the second eldest son and inherited the family pub which opened shortly after prohibition.
St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church is where John and Polly wed 55 years ago- yes, on the same block of Kenmore. It was also were we said our goodbyes today. Adam's Dan & brother, Jason flew in for the visitation & Mass.
Our Uncle John passed last week at the age of 82.
He grew up a child of Irish Immigrants on the North side of Chicago. He lived his whole life on the 2200 block of North Kenmore. He was born on this block, went to grammar school this block, high school on this block, college on this block, law school on this block, got married on this block and lived his whole married life on this block. A couple of years ago, the city renamed the block "John & Polly Kelly Way."
