For the past 3 years a Chicago barbeque joint, Bub City, has sponsored a music/bbq festival featuring a heavy rotation of Texas Country artists. Named the Windy City Smokeout, this 3 day event was traditionally held in a parking lot in River North. However this year, they moved the festival slightly west to Grand Avenue and the Chicago river. Not only did this allow more room for food venders, it also allowed for two stages which decreased the time between shows.
First up for the evening was Pat Green.
We have seen him countless times over the years in Texas & Chicago. He started out playing fraternity houses for free and later county fairs, college arenas before making his way to the big stage. Unfortunately, most of the time he is drunk and tonight was no exception. He even forgot the words to some of his songs.
A festival bonus! The Food Network's Adam Richman was there hocking his new book.

The headliner for the night is one of Kelly's favorites- Kacey Musgraves!!! She was the main reason we chose the Friday night ticket. This year's line up was pretty strong with Will Hodge and The Turnpike Troubadours on Saturday night and the Randy Rogers band on Sunday afternoon.
If you have not heard her new album, Pageant Material, we highly recommend it. This Dimestore Cowgirl and east Texas native put on a great show singing songs from both of her albums along with a few covers. Quite refreshing for country music!
We again caught the 10:40 Metra train back to Wheaton. We are getting the hang of the city/suburb night time commute.
