The Illinois Centennial Column is located on North Milwaukee and Logan Boulevard in the Logan Square neighborhood. This memorial was erected in 1918 to commemorate 100 years of statehood. We decided to visit this area in honor of General John Logan. As we have mentioned previously on the blog, he is the reason we have a Memorial Day. Adam was surprised that more people were not around to celebrate this American hero and all he has done for our veteran's. Must be the cold and rainy day...
Our favorite place in Logan Square- Revolution Brewing! Last time here, we had a pizza made with beets and goat cheese.
The Cheddar Ale soup with thyme and the Spicy Veggie Chili made great appetizers.
While they do serve more than pizza, we decided to try another one. We choose the "Granny Cider Pork" - a pizza topped with gorgonzola cheese, caramelized beer onions, braised apple, fennel, tarragon, pulled pork and cider gastrique. Good choice as it was amazingly delicious!
On the way home, we passed the Map Room on Armitage. Nothing better on a rainy day than a nice pub and a pint!
After each spring rain, the city is consumed with fog off the lake. This time of year, the lake Michigan water and Chicago air are about the same temperature thus creating the eerie meteorological conditions (not to mention dangerous driving on Lake Shore drive!).
